Angers is 107km west of Tours and 90km east of Nantes.
Land
Bus
Regional services from the new bus station (next to the train station) are operated by Anjou Bus (08 20 16 00 49; www.cg49.fr/services/voyager/anjou-bus in French; 6.15am-7pm Mon-Sat). Bus 9 goes to Brissac-Quincé (€1.45, 30 minutes, five to seven Monday to Saturday) and Doué-la-Fontaine (€5, 55 minutes, five or six daily Monday to Saturday); buses 7, 18 and 18B will take you to St-Georges-sur-Loire (€1.45, 40 minutes, seven daily Monday to Saturday); and buses 5 (along the south bank of the Loire) and 11 (along the north bank) serve Saumur (€6.80, 1½ hours, five daily Monday to Saturday).
Train
Angers’ glass and steel train station, Gare Angers-St-Laud, has direct trains to Nantes (€13.50, 40 minutes, half-hourly Monday to Saturday, hourly Sunday and holidays), Saumur (€7.10, 20 minutes, five to nine daily) and Tours (€14.70/17.60 for a non-TGV/TGV, about 1¼ hours, nine to 14 daily). TGVs link Angers with Paris’ Gare Montparnasse (€57.10, 1½ hours, hourly).
Tickets can be purchased in the city centre at the Boutique SNCF (5 rue Chaperonniêre; 1.30-7pm Mon, 9.30am-7pm Tue-Fri, to 6.30pm Sat).
Air
Aéroport d’Angers-Marcé (02 41 33 50 00; www.angers.aeroport.fr), 24km northeast of the centre in Marcé (off the A11), has flights to Cork, Luton, Manchester and Southampton.
