Lonely Planet review for Debotte Gautier

When Jules Verne was a young boy he too was awed by this beautiful chocolate shop decorated with chandeliers, marble floors and a circular velvet banquette where Nantais have waited while their orders were filled since 1823. Handmade specialities include mascarons (finely ground chocolates encased in a dark chocolate shell) and a rainbow of hardboiled sweets.

    A must-see, and must-taste!

    rbeli recommends this,

A pleasure, from arrival to any of the three stores to the very last chocolate in the box.

The quality of these chocolates are really superb, from their presentation, to whatever surprise awaits on the inside. If you are here, you must have the mascarons nantais, they are delicious. When you go and you buy a box, you get to pick the amount of chocolate you want, and also which ones. Make sure you do, or else you get the "tourist mix", which will probably include the least popular and the least expensive. If you're there in late December, ask for a calendar!

I would say that these chocolates are probably too refined for small children, I'm not sure they would appreciate them as well.
