Housed in an 18th century building, this upper-midrange place is surprisingly quiet for its location, which is as central as it gets for Bordeaux, directly fronting the elegant pedestrianised shopping boulevard, Rue Ste-Catherine.

Red wine-coloured doors line brightly lit hallways leading to 82 modern rooms with wi-fi access. Even the cheapest 'cosy' rooms are a decent size, and the larger rooms (here called 'standard', 'executive', and 'luxe') become successively spacious by price. 'Luxe' rooms include living areas with settees and tables set with wine glasses. Bathrooms are the veneered kind - clean, if not super-chic - but have hairdryers mounted above desks in the main sleeping area. Despite being part of a chain, Hôtel Quality Sainte-Catherine maintains a personal feel thanks to its helpful staff.
