From the outside at least, this three-star place isn't like any other hotel in the Best Western chain, with just a small blue, red and gold logo discretely placed above a splendid 18th-century former private mansion.
Even the lobby, with its grand Bordelaise staircase and exposed sandstone walls, shows none of the usual hallmarks of a chain hotel. It's only when you enter the rooms that this place takes on slightly more of a could-be-anywhere-in-the-world feel, but that said, the 35 rooms here are attractive, with gold leaf designs embossing red bedspreads, royal blue or red carpeting and bright, clean bathrooms. They're all air-conditioned (Bordeaux can swelter in summer) and come with the bonus of tea and coffee making facilities, as well as minibars, TVs, telephones, and a lift. Wi-fi is available in all rooms and there's an online computer in the lobby (both chargeable by the hour). Pet pooches are welcome.
