Grand by name, grand by nature, Biarritz’s vast main beach has been the place to be seen in since the days of Napoléon II and Eugénie. It's wall-to-wall with bodies on summer days, and eerily deserted in winter. Stripey 1920s-style beach tents can be hired for €9.50 per day.
