Bus
The bus services linking Cahors with destinations around the Lot département, designed primarily to transport school children, are a mess. To check your limited options, ask at the tourist office.
There are three or four daily SNCF bus services from Cahors’ train station and place Charles de Gaulle to Bouziès (€4.60, 30 minutes), Tour de Faure (St-Cirq Lapopie, €5.10, 40 minutes) and Figeac (€10.70, 1½ hours).
Car
Choose from Avis (05 65 30 13 10; place de la Gare) or Hertz (05 65 35 34 69; 385 rue Anatole France) opposite the train station.
Free parking is available all along the river and in the westernmost sections of the car parks along allées Fénelon (behind the tourist office) and also at place Charles de Gaulle.
Train
Cahors’ train station (place Jouinot Gambetta, aka place de la Gare) is on the main SNCF line (four to eight daily) linking Paris’ Gare d’Austerlitz (€60.90, five hours). Trains stop at Limoges (€24.10, 2¼ hours), Souillac (€9.60, 45 minutes), Brive-la-Gaillarde (€13.90, one hour) and Toulouse (€15.60, 1¼ hours). To get to Sarlat-la-Canéda, take a train to Souillac and an SNCF bus from there (€13, three hours, two daily).
