Built right into the rocks, this streamlined hotel has sensational sea views from all of its 160 rooms - you can specify if you want your view from the bathtub or the bed. Many rooms (none large enough to accommodate kids) also have balconies.

Said to be the largest in Marseille, the spring water swimming pool (accessible 24 hours) is framed by a glass barrier, making it appear to merge into the sea. Flanked by palms, the reception area is on the 3rd floor. The ground floor is a bit like a modish furniture showroom flowing into an art gallery space and an exposed rockface gushing with water from the Roucas Blanc hot springs. Rooms have cool grey and blue tones with luxe linens, and sleek bathrooms with raised Duravit basins and Roger & Gallet of Paris products. Select a book from the hotel's library shelves - if you can tear your eyes away from the sea views. For all these luxuries however, the hotel retains a certain chain-like atmosphere and tends to be booked up by seminars and conferences rather than individuals.
