Lonely Planet review
A little oasis, the New Hotel Bompard is set in 3000 sq m (32,231 sq ft) of Mediterranean gardens shaded by palm fronds. It has a sparkling 2.3m (7.5ft) deep navy-blue swimming pool in an elevated courtyard lined with reclining lounges for whiling away days in the south of France sun.
In this secreted garden, the city's commotion is a world away. Forty-nine whisper-quiet rooms are spread across historic and contemporary buildings. Through a grand Victorian arched hallway hung with oil paintings you'll find classically appointed rooms with dark timber furniture and French-washed walls. Or, if you're after something a bit more this century, newer rooms have slate and olive tones and glass brick bathrooms with stone floors. Flowing onto a lamp-lit patio beneath leafy trees, the hotel's Le Lautrec bar and restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day in summer (Monday to Friday only in winter), and breakfast is also served here. The concierge, an ex-travel agent, can also suggest places to dine in the area. Free on-site parking is a definite bonus. Heading just down the hill brings you to the rocky coast scalloped by beaches.
