Lonely Planet review
In its previous incarnation, Hôtel Sylvabelle was known as Hôtel Béarn, a somewhat shabby but friendly joint. No longer. The new Hôtel Sylvabelle has gone through extensive refurbishment and although this is no Hilton, it is clean, fresh, and has managed to retain very attractive prices despite the investment.
Rooms have been given a fresh coat of white paint lending them a crisp feel, and pastel colours adorn the corridors, which has considerably brightened the place. Six of the 20 rooms share toilets on the landing, the rest are ensuite. The furnishings are simple and there is no air-con, but rue Sylvabelle is not a noisy street so you won't have problems sleeping, even with the windows opened. Wi-fi is free though, a nice perk for a budget venue. The change of management seems to have done it good too, with young and friendly service. The only downside is that there's no lift - the stairs of the grand staircase can feel like a mountaineering expedition if you have a lot of luggage.
Our independent authors have visited Hôtel Sylvabelle and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Marseille.
