Lonely Planet review for Les Deux Garçons
Cézanne and Zola once lingered in this classic brasserie/café, but it rests on its laurels: best for a drink or small bite.

Gilded misty memories, with sophistication of mind
colonelplink recommends this,
Though the Deux Garcons looms large in my memories of a triumphant trip through the Cote d'Azur and Provence, they are not as clear as I would wish. Tinged with the golden light of night time on the Rue de 4 Septembre and the beer in our glasses, the recollections are strong but ill-defined after twenty years. To repose in this, a titan in a royal row of brasseries, is to relax in the elysium of leisure. Forget the effrontery of Parisians, the blustering self-importance of Rome: this strand of Aix-en-Provence epitomizes the solicitous, approachable intelligence of a true open-air salon. For those seeking the sophistication of a French cafe' where each arrival becomes part of the milieu, Deux Garcons may be the ultimate destination.
