Bottoms Up: The Search for Paris’ Best Cocktails
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 9 November 2009
Despite what Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald might have you believe, Paris has not historically been a cocktail-drinking town. Even today, the traditional pre-dinner drink—the apéritif or more familiar “apéro”—usually takes the form of a glass of champagne, a kir (white wine with a splash of cassis), or a pastis (an anise-flavored liqueur favored by pétanque-playing French gentlemen of a certain age).

Metro Station of the Month: Abbesses
Blog: I Prefer Paris - 9 November 2009
Abbesses metro is the station for Montmartre. It has one of the only two remaining original Hector Guimard metro entrances in Paris and was named after abbesses of the nearby Dames-de Montmartre abbey. One of the deepest stations in Paris,118...

Lady in Paris
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
It's a cold morning in Paris. I'm sitting in the Place des Vosges taking advantage of the city's free wi-fi network and feeling rather embarrassed that the French got a city-wide wi-fi network up and running before San Francisco! That aside, I'm loving that I can sit in one of my favorite parks and be on the internet at the same time.

Lady in the City of Lights
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
November was the first full month I've spent in the UK since I moved here. I'd love to say that it was because I've finally been cured of the travel bug, but the truth is that I was getting my passport renewed.

Lady in the City of Lights (Part 2)
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
The only thing better than going to Paris for a couple days is going back to Paris for another couple days the next day. While this week's first journey to Paris was a nostalgic trip, the second was most definitely a hedonistic one.

Lady Works in Paris
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
I love Paris in the summer. I love the warm weather, the endless daylight, the leafy green gardens and parks, and of course, the soldes. Unfortunately, since I moved to London I've had the bad habit of visiting Paris in the dead of winter. And while even wintry Paris has its charms, I couldn't help but feel like I was missing out on something by not vising the city in the summer.

Paris in Your Pocket
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 6 November 2009
Remember back in the day, when you used to carry around guidebooks and maps as you explored a new destination? The guidebooks were clunky and cumbersome, sometimes as thick as dictionaries. And maps ... well, nothing says "tourist" like the sight of a person standing on a street looking at a big, unfolded map. Nowadays, you can ditch the books and paper and make your way through Paris using the technology in your pocket.

Meet Maïa: Your Personal Porcelain Painter in Paris
Blog: Paris By Appointmenty Only - 4 November 2009
It's funny how a deep childhood frustration can become a creative manifesto later in life. Case in point: Maïa, the Paris-based porcelain painter. As a kid, she tried in vain every night to decorate the table with her family's finest, only to be told to return it to the cupboard for the everyday stuff. Now, not only does Maïa set the table with beautiful, eye-popping designs whenever she likes, she's made it her business to make sure that others do too!

The Art of Being a French Woman
Blog: ParisienSalon.com - 30 October 2009
Having grown up in the American Northeast, Dani Baron has seen more than her fair share of cold winters. So she's no stranger to all the seasonal bearing of scarves and hats—the accessories necessary to staying warm when temperatures plummet. But during the two years she lived in Paris, Dani felt like “a complete failure in the winter fashion department,” as she recalls.
