Lonely Planet review for Tour Montparnasse
A steel-and-smoked-glass eyesore built in 1974, the 210m-high Tour Montparnasse affords spectacular views over the city – a view, we might add, that does not take in this ghastly oversized lipstick tube. A lift takes you up to the 56th-floor enclosed observatory, with exhibition centre, video clips, multimedia terminals and Paris’ highest café. Finish with a hike up the stairs to the open-air terrace on the 59th floor, but arm yourself with the multilingual guide Paris Vu d’En Haut (Paris Seen from the Top; €3), available from the ticket office, to know what you’re looking at.

A great alternative to the Tour Eiffel
tanzonholiday recommends this,
I have been to the Eiffel Tower on a few ocassions and must say the queues can be very very long and possibly not the place you want to be on a very warm or rainy day. The Tour Montparnasse is a great alternative an offers great views of the beautiful city of love and lights.
The restaurant can be very expensive so best to have your meal beforehand and drinks are costly as well.
I forgot how much we paid for tickets into the tower as they were purchased online to avoid long queues but would recommend this site if you want to see Paris from atop. Even better you get to see the Eiffel Tower. ;-)Good for: Couples, first time visitors
