Lonely Planet review

This museum, founded by collector Édouard André and his portraitist wife Nélie Jacquemart, is housed in an opulent mid-19th-century residence. It contains original furniture, tapestries and enamels but is most noted for its paintings by Rembrandt and Van Dyck and Italian Renaissance works by Bernini, Botticelli, Tintoretto, Titian, Uccello and more.

The Musée Jacquemart-André is often compared to the Frick Collection in New York. The relatively high price of admission includes an audioguide. Don't miss the Jardin d'Hiver (Winter Garden), with its marble statuary, lush tropical plants and double-helix marble staircase. Just off it is the delightful fumoir (smoking room), filled with exotic objects collected by Jacquemart in the course of her travels.
