Lonely Planet review for Chez Janou

This lovely little spot just east of place des Vosges attracts celebs (last seen: John Malkovich) and hangers on with its inspired Provençal cooking from the south of France, 80 types of pastis and excellent service. Try the superb ratatouille with anchovy and black olive dips and the spelt risotto with scallops.

    Delightful and delicious!

    azpcj recommends this,

A friend recommended Chez Janou as a lunch spot while we were in Paris. It was a little out of our way and we didn't make it there until almost the end of our trip. We regret that we didn't try it sooner because it was absolutely delightful! We returned for lunch the next day. The ratatouille was wonderful - so much so that my husband, who doesn't like eggplant, ordered it the second day after having tried mine on the first visit. The food was outstanding, service was good, and ambiance was a treat.

Okay food- worst experience anywhere with service

    ccgertler does not recommend this,

The food here is decent- neighborhood is cute, but the service was the worst thing I have experienced anywhere in the world. And I am a New Yorker! We got our wine after we had eaten our meal, after asking for it multiple times, and never received bread. After dinner we ordered chocolate mouse for desert. For some reason instead of serving us like all of the other tables, the waitress chose to leave the giant bowl on our table. Unsure what to do, we waited for her to serve us. When she finally came by, instead of serving is like I asked, she took it away, then charged us. When we asked for it to be taken off the bill, the bartender proceeded to cuss us out in all of the English cuss words he knew. The hostess was nice enough to take it off, and after paying, we ran out the door within an inch of our lives. With so many cute places to eat in the Marais, I will never, EVER, recommend someone to go here, even if the food is decent.
