Lonely Planet review for Chez Paul

When they put up a ‘French restaurant’ film set in Hollywood, this ever-expanding bistro is what it must look like. An extremely popular bistro, it has traditional French main courses handwritten on a yellowing menu and brusque service – Paris in true form! Stick with the simplest of dishes – the steak or foie gras with lentils – and make sure you’ve booked ahead.

    Just for the atmosphere

    croquemonsieur does not recommend this,

Here is my opinion as a Parisian.

Food is really mediocre. Sure, dishes are French classicals, but they are not good : factory - made, very little taste... our rabbit was not cooked enough and cold, french fries are fat, not well cooked and not tasty, the terrine was completely industrial

Wine is not drinkable (we let half our bottle, that is very unusual for us!)

But the worst is the service. We had a reservation and had to wait 30mn (in front of the door, it was very cold). 20mn later we slip to the barman that a free drink would be appreciated , to help us enjoy the waiting time(it is usual in restaurants if you have a reservation and have to wait for a long time). And we realized that they had put these "free" drinks on our bill!

So do not expect gourmet food and check your bill !
