Lonely Planet review for Le Comptoir du Relais

Simply known as Le Comptoir (The Counter), this gourmet bistro has provoked a real stir ever since it opened. The culinary handiwork of top chef Yves Camdeborde, it serves seasonal bistro dishes with a creative twist – asparagus and foie gras salad anyone? Bagging a table without an advance reservation at lunchtime is just about doable providing you arrive sharp at 12.30pm, but forget more gastronomic evening dining without a reservation (weeks in advance for weekends).

Overrated , Over-seasoned and over cooked

    jazzandfood does not recommend this,

After a recent trip to Paris I dined at Le Comptoir Du Relais,I did not have to queue and I am so glad that I did not , I have been working in the food industry in Australia for many years and I know Yves Camdeborde has
a reputation in Paris , but Le Comptoir does not live up to this , with people queuing to get in the door , they will be sadly unimpressed by inferior, over-cooked, over salted food they receive .
Monsieur Comdeborde puts on a show for the TV cameras, but the majority of the time the food is prepared and cooked by his team of very average chefs , after dining in his bistro , I found the food inedible with the tuna tasting like it was out of a tin, and beef cheeks in pools of grease ,fat and salt with a terrible aftertaste , It would have to be the worst food that I have experienced in Paris , I asked a few of the people sitting near by , what they thought of the food they admitted that the food was OK, but was by no means the best they had eaten. The trouble these days are certain restauranteurs know how to work the
media machine and get accolades when their food is not deserving of them.
My tip is there are so many wonderful restaurants in Paris , Keep away from these overrated places living on their owners past glories
