L'As de Felafel

LA's Du Fallafel is a food mecca for travellers in Paris wanting a middle eastern fix. The word is they are THE BEST FALAFELS EVER!

It's a lot to live up to. So does it? 

We followed our map around the back streets of The Marais to 34 Rue des Rosiers. After passing many fashionable shops and tempting patisseries we rounded a corner to see a long, boisterous queue snaking up to a tiny restaurant window. You guessed it, we had reached LA's Du Fallafel. I was by now starving and in no mood for queuing. However, we were in Paris and these were, as I mentioned, THE BEST FALAFELS EVER! We joined the queue and embraced the party-like atmosphere.

The good news was, LA's Du Fallafel were ready for us. All of us. A Middle Eastern waiter with perfect English, (and French, German, Spanish and Arabic) worked the queue with his order book so that by the time you got to the window (which took only five minutes) all you had to do was collect your falafel. And what was going on in that kitchen window was worth the wait alone. Guys madly chopping vegetables into massive salad bowls, other guys furiously assembling falafels and yelling instructions. Bits of carrot and cabbage flying everywhere. It was organized bedlam. You could see into the seated area of the restaurant but it looked boring compared to the street atmosphere.

And the falafel? Yummy. Fresh, reasonably priced and filling. I don’t know if it was my BEST FALAFEL EVER but it was pretty close and the experience surprisingly fun. 

Don't be fooled by the other neighboring felafel joints.  L'As de Felafel is a Parisian classic.  The service here is incredibly quick, if a little brusk.  To save a couple euros, order your felafel "emporter" from the front window  and eat it while strolling along the quaint streets of Le Marais.  Remember the restaurant is closed Fridays and Saturdays for the Sabbath.
