Les Deux Magots

The first thing to say about Les Deux Magots, is it's not the place to practice your beginners french. The last thing the extremely busy waiters need here, is to be stopped as they are balancing various forms of crokery, loose cutlery, etc. on every available limb. That said, this is the quintessential Parisien cafe. In spite of its cultish appeal to tourists, the majority of tables are still occupied by Parisiens today. 
The menu is limited but excellent, mainly catering for lunches or quick snacks. It also has, probably, the tastiest foie gras in all of Paris. Add to this a great view of St Germain des pres and you have a wonderful stop off point to soak up some of the atmosphere and history that makes this city what it is today. 

It was August, the Parisians retreat from Paris they say yet it was still full. The rain did not deter us from taking a worse for the wear, I prefer to call it character, wicker chair and sit out doors. The pain with ham and fromage was ordinary but it was the experience and whilst eating it with a glass of bubbly water and wine a good start to the adventure that is Paris. As I was staying nearby this became a point to get my bearings and I was amazed that it was always full of interesting people. Experience it but leave the dining for some wonderful places nearby.
