From Bayeux bus 70, run by Bus Verts (08 10 21 42 14), goes west to Colleville-sur-Mer, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc and Grandcamp-Maisy. Bus 74 (75 during summer) serves Arromanches, Gold and Juno Beaches, and Courseulles.

D-Day Lines (08 10 21 42 14; www.busverts.fr/dday60 ; tour €14), run by Bus Verts, operates a range of summer circuits around the D-Day Beaches, stopping at the main sites, major cemeteries and museums along the way (discounts are offered on museum entry). D-Day Lines departure points:

Caen (9.20am Jun-mid–Sep, return 6.05pm) To Juno Beach, Arromanches, Longues-sur-Mer, Omaha and Point du Hoc. Leaves from Caen bus station.

Bayeux (9.35am Mon, Wed & Sat mid-Jun–Sep, return 5.31pm) To Arromanches, Longues-sur-Mer, Omaha, Point du Hoc and La Cambe. Leaves from Bayeux train station.

Bayeux (9.35am Mon, Wed & Fri Jun-Sep, return 5.31pm) To La Cambe, St-Mère-Église, Azeville Battery and Utah Beach. Leaves from Bayeux train station.

Deauville (9.20am Wed, Fri & Sat Jun-Sep, return 6.05pm) To Sword Beach, Merville Battery, the Pegasus Memorial and Ouistreham. Leaves from Deauville train station.
