Train

The stunning Art Deco Gare des Bénédictins (0 836 353 535) is one of the most striking train stations in France. Completed in 1929, the station is graced by a vast copper dome, and the exterior is covered in lavish frescoes inspired by the region’s rural heritage. The elegant copper-topped clock-tower has been thoroughly restored since a fire in 1997.

Main destinations include Paris’ Gare d’Austerlitz (€41.50, three hours, 10 daily), Périgueux (€13.70, one hour, 11 daily) and Cahors (€25.90, 2¼ hours, four direct daily), as well as local destinations including Aubusson (€12.90, 1¾ hours, three daily, one on Sunday) and Brive-la-Gaillarde (€16.10, 1 hour, at least fifteen daily).

Tickets are also available from the SNCF boutique (4 rue Othon Péconnet; 9am-7pm Mon-Sat).
