Getting there & around
Champagne (www.tourisme-champagne-ardenne.com), just north of Burgundy, makes a refreshing stop-over if you’re driving from far northern France or Paris eastward to Lorraine or Alsace. Épernay can be visited as an all-day excursion from Paris; once the TGV Est Européen line begins running in June 2007, Reims will also be day-tripable from the capital.
France’s rail lines radiate out from Paris like the spokes of a wheel and, as it so happens, Reims, Épernay and Troyes are each on a different spoke (more or less). Although there are pretty good Reims–Épernay rail connections, the best way to get from Reims to Troyes is by bus.
