Getting there & away
A taxi minibus runs from Kajaani airport to the town of Kuhmo after the arrival of each flight, and there is also a regular service the other way (€27, 1½ hours).
There are numerous daily buses to/from Kajaani (€15.20, 1½ hours), where you can get connections to other towns west and south and less frequent direct buses to Joensuu (€27.10, four hours). For Nurmes, change at Sotkamo. Trains arriving in Kajaani (102km to the west) connect with buses to Kuhmo.
There are buses east on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to the Russian Karelian town of Kostamus run by Turistiliikenne Kyllönen (652 0771).
