Four kilometres from the centre, this theme park is actually less about the Kalevala epic than traditional Karelian life. Part of the village, by the camping ground, is free to enter. It has a number of Karelian wooden buildings with characteristic overlapping corners, including a sauna, craft shops and Pohjolantalo, a large hall that functions as cafe, restaurant and gallery.
The rest of the area, which includes a smoke sauna, tar-making, fishing etc, is basically designed for group visits: ask if there are any tours scheduled that you can join.
