Behind the old town hall is the former police station, which now serves as the Kajaanin Taidemuseo. It hosts changing exhibitions of mostly contemporary art from the region.

Church
The beautiful wooden church from 1896 is a fine example of Finnish neo-Gothic. It’s typically Karelian, with lots of ornate wooden trim and a delicate, slender, bell tower.
