Lonely Planet review
As one of Finland's most expensive hotels, you'd expect it to impress on arrival. It does just that, from its quiet waterside location to its soaring lobby area. Formerly the Finnish flagship of the Scandic chain, named the Inter-Continental, it was 'rebranded' when Hilton bought up in 2001. It's the most luxurious of Helsinki's chain hotels.
The rooms are well sized and come in a variety of standards - executive rooms are a little larger and have a couple of extras like bathrobes - some even have a balcony. It'd be wasteful to come here and not try for a room with a view over the water, out towards where the serious business of Helsinki harbour goes on. It's one of the few Helsinki hotels to have a swimming pool (part of a comprehensive array of facilities). Top-level hotels in the Nordic countries tend to assume their guests are self-reliant Euro executives, so it's nice to see oft-neglected conveniences offered here, like babysitting, as well as a proper concierge service that can arrange tours and give travel advice.
