Lonely Planet review

Handily located next to Kastelholms Slott, Jan Karlsgårdens Friluftsmuseum is a sprawling open-air museum that really comes alive during Midsummer celebrations. You can stroll around traditional 18th- and 19th-century Ålandic buildings, including windmills and a smoke sauna. The guidebook (€2) from the museum shop is essential to get the background on each building.
