Beaches in the main island states of Micronesia

Hello all,

I'm having trouble to find information about the beaches in Micronesia. So far I learned that there aren't really nice beaches on the main islands of Chuuk (Weno) and Pohnpei (except Ant Atoll).. On Google we can see that there are apparently some beautiful beaches on the main islands of Yap and Kosrae, but can anybody confirm this? If yes, which ones and are they easily accessible for tourists? I'm planning a trip to Micronesia in 2015 and I'd like to choose 2 islands, mostly the ones…

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

I am planning on spending a couple of weeks travelling FSM this summer and am finding that any attempts to book or plan are met by a great lack of available information. I am aware that United are the only airline that travel and am preparing myself for the large dent that those flights will create but was looking for any advice on which order it is easiest to fly to the islands in (from Guam), are there specific days they flights go (united website is being very unhelpful) and does…

yap, 1st week of feb, prebook a room?

I prefer to just arrive, find a convenient bed for the first night, then check around in person the next day for the place I like the most. Is that feasible? Any chance there wont be any available rooms?

Thanks for any input.

cheers

Hi everyone! (Please help me and ask for my questions)

Hi !
It's very nice to find a Micronesia forum on which I can meet people who live in this beautiful country and know something interesting things about living in FSoM. I'm living in London (UK) since 3 months, and I've 25 age Polish man after International relations academy (5 years). My English is very (little ;P) poor but I'm trying to write some without translator/dictionary and I've got hope you will understand me. I don't have any destination and any obligations in my life, but fortunately…

Recent trip to Chuuk, FSM

Hey all, I just left from a trip to Chuuk, and since there isn't a ton of info on the forum, I thought I'd share. I stayed on Weno, which is the main island in the island group that makes up Chuuk State.

First off, I went primarily for diving, which is what Chuuk is famous for. I dove through Truk Stop Hotel and Dive Center for 5 days. I did mostly 2-tank morning dives, as well as two separate afternoon dives. I was able to complete my Advanced Open Water and also took Enriched Air…

negative experience with the Pathways Hotel at Yap

In January 2013 we visited Micronesia and Palau for 4 weeks.
Yap was a highlight of our tour.
Unfortunately we had bad luck with Hotel.
Because of the good critics on Internet we decided for the Pathways Hotel.
As we arrived at 0:45 in the night, we were shocked about the bungalow.
The bedsheet and the blanket were very dirty, a lot of mosquitos were in the room and no mosquitonet above the bed, and it was raining from the ceiling, because of the rain outside.
A second bungalow, which was shown…

PIcking Up Duty Free Going to Chuuk from Houston

Fellow Travelers,
I'll be flying into Chuuk on United Airlines in May. I depart the mainland USA from Houston and I have a "layover" in Honolulu, but this is not a true flight change; just a change of planes. This “layover” is just over an hour. I then go to Guam for a true flight change and short layover prior to flying to Chuuk.

I'm guessing that if I were to pick up duty free alcohol in Houston or Honolulu, there would be required that I would put it into checked luggage prior to Guam (or…

Trip Report Yap (January 2013)

(All info is in relation to the 2006 LP guide.) Coming from Palau, I found Yap refreshingly quiet, simple and low-key. Locals are westernized enough to show tolerance towards tourists and their behaviour (instead of paranoia, suspicion, greed or curiosity), yet are "uncivilized" (unspoilt) enough to be very friendly. The isolation of Yap has its disadvantages, though: Almost nobody seems to accept credit cards (those that do may demand a hefty surcharge) and the choice of groceries available is…

how to get to Pohnpei and Kosrae islnds in Micronesia??

Hi There,
I;ve been wanting to go for a while to the ancient stone ruins of Lelu and Nan Madol on Kosrae and Pohnpei islands in Micronesia. I'm flying soon to Manila to try and find out about flights to there ,possibly through Guam and onwards to Hawai. Nobody here in kuala Lumpur seems to know about the islands or how to fly there with combination flight tickets/stopovers. The Continental website doesn't give stopover options between Manila and Honolulu..
Has anyone been there…

Chuuk Apartments

I am currently planning on a move to Chuuk Micronesia. Does anyone have any contact information on apartments there or how to get them. How about prices on hotels and hotel reviews aside from the truk stop and blue lagoon.
Thanx.
