Hi there, I am traveling on a budget through South America and was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting to the Falkland Islands besides the Punta Arenas to Mount Pleasant route as the least expensive flight I've found was over $800US. Are there any boats or cruises that head out that way? I'm sure they'd also be up there in price, but at least I'd be getting more bang for my buck so to speak in the journey.
Searching for a group to join or just one other person to adventure around the Falklands, Georgia, and Antarctica. Available any time. I have a very flexible schedule.
I am a very energetic and active outdoors woman who is 50 yrs young and a world traveler.

Having recently returned from the Falklands there are a few odd things that visitors should be aware of. I stayed a week (flew in/out via Punta Arenas).
There is only one place to change money in Stanley (or the entire Islands) and that is the Standard Chartered Bank on Ross Road. Having cash is VERY important because a lot of places in Stanley do not take credit/debit. If all else fails, they will do a cash advance from your credit card.

I will be in the Falklands later this year. I have my flights booked and now I need to work out my land arrangements. I am debating if an independent visit is feasible. Or if i should book a prearranged travel package. I am having a difficult time getting information on the Falklands, I'd like to hear from people who have visited the islands what their travel experiences were like and whether they travelled independently or with a tour company.
Thanks in advance.
Recently, Argentine authorities turned away two cruiseships that stopped by Falklands. Does this means that all future cruiseships, including Antarctic cruises, will no longer be allowed to stop by Falklands and South Georgia?
I wonder if anybody knows if it is possible to camp wild near stanley on the Falkland islands or near the aiport. Does anybody have any info on that? Everything is appreciated!!!
Thanks - northsurfi
I will be working in the falklands for a month and a half, starting in just over a week. In this time I am keen to explore as much of the wildlife of the area as possible and also to try and get out to South Georgia on one of the ships. Does anyone have any tips on how to try and achieve this and how much it might cost? I know that one problem might be that the ships tend to do a clockwise circuit and continue from SG to the antarctic peninsula and then back to Ushuaia, but do some of them…
