Experimental Traveller Rachael Antony:

Compared to the fearsome challenges of scaling K2 in Kashmir, exploring the region of K2 on Map
531 in a Melbourne street directory is decidedly easier, being both frostbite
and sherpa free. As I journey down the highway I note that the travel
route to K2 would please even the most discerning of aesthetes with a
taste for industrial zones. Eschewing the temptation of a seaside stroll
(F12) or a visit to the Air Museum (L5), I finally set foot on K2, only
to discover that it is pouring with rain. Though I am pelted with rain
and bullied by the winds, I remain grimly determined to enjoy K2 to the
full - namely, the Cheltenham-Moorabbin Returned Servicemen's League Club,
tastefully positioned by Kingston Heath Reserve, a suburban slice of greenery
fronting the highway. While the snowy mists of far-off K2 remain a mystery
to me, they can surely be no stranger than the flat plains of deepest
suburbia.
