    Duffer of St George

The first to bring Evisu jeans to London and a good place for Oeuf T-shirts, Duffer remains the meister of London menswear despite growing competition. 'Shield' formal wear like shirts and classic Italian handmade suits, as well as more urban sweats, bags and accessories are all on sale.

    Be Innocent

Style-savvy fashionistas will be familiar with these Victorian Gothic-inspired frilly baby-doll dresses from the elegant Gothic Lolita look of the Japanese Harajuku subculture. Although it took off in Japan in the '90s, its recent appropriation by Gwen Stefani is now popularising it in the West.

    Store

In this one, tight shop you'll find an eclectic range of class brands imported from Barcelona, Paris, London and beyond. You might encounter anything from golfing trousers through Barbour coats to Argentine polo players' clobber. Pick up a pair of braces or choose from the array of accessories.

    Victory

Rome's penchant for mainstream catwalk crud bypassed Victory, which flies the flag for harder-to-find male wardrobe winners. Must-buys include Dondup jeans, Gaetano Navarra shirts and Barcelona footwear label Munich. Clued-up female fashionistas can get their fix across the street at No 103-4.

    Yoshiharu Ito

This Tokyo-trained couturier has built his considerable reputation on putting an inventive, personal spin on classic cuts, which are perfectly tailored and made of high-quality, sober-coloured fabric. Men’s clothing is his main strength, but his women’s line turns heads as well.

    Cleo

Home-knits and hand-weaves from all over the country (including a fine selection of Aran sweaters) make up the bulk of this shop’s collection. The patterns are all very Irish – some more than others; there are sweaters with replicas of Celtic stones and other ancient patterns.

    Mariposa

Designer Banu One turns out a particularly fetching line in floral frocks at her Cihangir atelier. Fashionistas will adore the fact that she not only makes to order, but also designs and tailors unique ensembles. As well as the dresses, coats and jackets on the racks, the shop sells pretty bedspreads and pillowslips.

    Jajcica

Whatever your ‘drag’ of choice happens to be – 1960s camp to leather or military – the folks at this anti-fashion emporium of used and vintage clothes will have you kitted out before you can say ‘Trick or Treat’. Their strong point is 1970s retro.

    Polyklamott

This low-key secondhand shop is filled with eminently rummagable racks of reasonably priced gear for men and women. Their own-brand retro satchels round out the selection, and the automatic clothes dispenser - all items in the Automat are €5 - is open for business 24 hours a day.

    Contesta Rock Hair

Minimalist-style, neon rods and a disco ball set the scene for clued-up guys and girls looking for edgy threads. Snap up in-the-know indie labels such as Italy's PHCY and Australia's Insight and Spacecraft, as well as odd-ball extras such as knitted Mexican wrestling masks.

    Lady Day

This is the premier location for unearthing spotless vintage clothes from Holland and elsewhere. The leather jackets, swingin’ 1960s and ’70s wear, and woollen sailors’ coats are well-priced winners. There are also some men’s suits and new shoes.

    Pietro Brunelli Maternity Appeal

Bump movie stars right off the best-dressed list with body-skimming designs that showcase your latest creative endeavour. The aqua silk dress with tiny pleats right below the bustline would make JLo jealous, and the belly-baring olive green halter could upstage Angelina.

    Valeria Fazekas

Are they hats or is it art? We’ll say both. Some of the limited headgear in a wide range or colours and fabrics on offer in this small gem of a boutique are out of this world (or at least on their way). Designer/artist Fazekas also does scarves and stylish tops.

    Tina Sondergaard

Sublimely cut and whimsically retro-esque, these handmade threads are a hit with female fashion cognoscenti, including Italian rock star Carmen Consoli and the city's theatre and TV crowd. Each piece is a limited edition and new creations hit the racks every week.

  26. Shop at Bluebird

This groovy boutique harks back to the way the King’s Rd used to be in the era of Vivienne Westwood and the Sex Pistols. One-off pieces by chic designers are casually displayed around a room full of art books, DJ decks and papier-mâché sculptures.
