Svytlytsa
This little French eatery in the middle of Andriyivsky uzviz is wonderful and wonderfully affordable. Its famous stuffed crêpes have been curing hungover expats for years, while its summer terrace is one of the best places in Kyiv to watch the world go by. French staples like frog legs and steak tartare liven up the menu, and peckish backpackers can revel in omelettes and pasta dishes for under 20uah.

Crêperie Fyra Knop
This Söder stalwart serves up perfect crêpes in an intimate dive with a hint of shantytown chic – think reggae tunes and old tin billboards for Stella Artois. Give in to the Grand Marnier, orange marmalade and dark chocolate combo and don’t be surprised if you find yourself licking that plate clean.

Chez Nicos
The blackboard outside crêpe artist Nicos' unassuming little shop chalks up an overwhelming variety of fillings, but ask by name for his 'La Crêpe du Chef', which is stuffed with aubergines, feta, mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. There's a handful of tables inside; otherwise head to a nearby park.

Katmi
This local take-away institution, off a side entrance on the square, offers delicious palachinki (pancakes) – much better than the usual Balkan crepe – with a choice of 122 different combinations. A pancake with all-natural blueberry and strawberry jam is especially tasty.

Crêperie Pen-Ty
Hailed as the best crêperie in northern Paris, Pen-Ty is worth the detour. Alas, the place is tiny, so be sure to book ahead. Need to brush up on Breton Cuisine 101? A galette is a savoury crêpe made from buckwheat; a regular crêpe is sweet and made from white flour.

Crêperie Ma Bretagne
What a wonderful little place this is – dark, candlelit and all about delicious crepes for main courses and desserts. You’ll never want to see a crepe again after eating here, but overindulgence in such a cosy atmosphere is a great way to go out.

Crêperie du Grand Chemin
This cheerful, cobalt-blue painted place is great for authentic Breton crêpes, with seafood crêpes a specialty, but even the most basic crêpe au beurre (buttered crêpe) will melt in your mouth.

This funky little creperie tempts in hungry shoppers with a range of baguettes and sweet and savoury pancakes with healthy fillings such as olives, feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. Home-made soups and freshly squeezed juices are also on the menu.

Rêve Marins
Accompanied by an outstanding list of local wines, this much-lauded place combines classic crêpes and buckwheat galettes with very un-classic (but delicious) fillings like chicken curry, or kangaroo and Muscadet grapes.

Crêperie Le Chouchen
Gussied up like a Breton village, this restaurant - named after Breton honey wine - is the best place in town for sweet and savoury crêpes washed down with cidre (cider) or a beer from Brittany. Salads are also available.

Bar Mleczny Apetyt
The latest-closing bar mleczny (milk bar) in town enjoys a good, central location. The food is exactly what you’d expect, and none the worse for that, with naleśniki (crepes) choices galore.

Pancake Square
No prizes for guessing which dish takes centre stage here. The modern café ambience suits the lightness of the raw materials, but be prepared for busy workday crowds sharing your enthusiasm for the fare.

Plaza Mayor
Fussy families will appreciate the variety here with crepes and baked potatoes, as well as traditional dishes, like partridge. Vegetarians may feel queasy about the ceiling of hanging hams.
