Radost FX
Though not quite as hot as it once was, Prague’s slickest, shiniest and most self-assured club is still capable of pulling in the crowds, especially for its Thursday hip-hop night, FXbounce (www.fxbounce.com). The place has a chilled-out, bohemian atmosphere, with Moroccan boudoir–meets–Moulin Rouge décor, and there’s an excellent lounge-cum–vegetarian restaurant that keeps serving into the small hours. DJs spin tunes in the ground floor gallery on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Pacha
The London outpost of the seminal 'Aybeefa' club is one of the city's most sumptuous venues, eschewing the 'industrial' look that dominates London clubland for the oak-wood panelling, upholstered booths and stunning stained-glass ceiling of a 1920s gentleman's club. The crowd is glitzy and showy, so dress up sexy to fit in.
Fridays are filled with gorgeous people who come for Funky4Love's glam funky house, and Saturday nights alternate the very popular bimonthly Kinky Malinki, Defected and Gate 21.

Windows Of The World Bar
This swish bar is a popular place for observing London from a great height: the 28th floor of the Hilton Hotel. You might think it resembles something out of Miami Vice, with its '80s-style armchairs, suave and extortionately priced (around £20) cocktails and live entertainer who pretends to be playing his guitar (he has a prerecorded track, really). Non-hotel guests arriving after 23:00 will have to pay a £7.50 cover charge.
The views of the city are breathtaking, particularly at dusk.

Gilda
Cue impressive displays of cleavage and silver foxes on the dance floor: Rome's partying politicians, actors and glamorous wannabes have been coming to Gilda to let their expensive hair down for decades. Named after the Rita Heyworth film, it's a dressy place where jackets are required and the music is pure pop. The glamour pusses transfer to Ostia in summer for Gilda on the Beach.

Salt Lounge Bar
A lustrous bar-restaurant attached to the Radisson SAS 1919 Hotel, Salt is gloriously upmarket. It's all clean Scandinavian lines, low luxurious seats and soft purple-toned lighting - and they even bring the cocktails to your table. It's not a place to get raddled in, but maybe one for early-evening drinkies.

Le Coppelle
Pose at Le Coppelle and partake in some 21st-century dolce vita. The recently refurbished bar has partially taken over the pretty piazza as its salon, with leopard-skin chairs and lipstick-red sofas on which to recline, watch the beautiful and the damned, and drink a cocktail (around €10).

Rex
Rex caters to an older, richer and more beautiful crowd than your average nightclub. It's a place where business deals are made over perfect cocktails, and where visiting celebrities can party in peace. Its three floors glow with rich red wallpaper, soft velvet seats and chandeliers.

Tretters
If you're looking for a bar with flashy bar staff and some of Prague's besuited power brokers and beautiful people, start with this 1930s New York-style cocktail bar, or head to sister bar Ocean's Drive (V Kolkovně 7) for a slightly more laidback Latin theme.

Barrik
As you might imagine, Wittenberg is pretty dead after dark, although the cultural centre called Barrik does its best to entertain the troops with live comedy, dance, cabaret and transvestite shows.

It’s a bedroom, but these beauties aren’t sleeping. Join them on the dance floor for electro and hip-hop, or recline on the beds in the lounge shimmering with gold wallpaper and chandeliers.
