Café, Gay/Lesbian entertainment in Europe

  1. A

    Vivelavie

Just off Rembrandtplein, this lively place is probably Amsterdam’s most popular lesbian cafe for its flirty girls, good-natured staff, loud music and large windows. In summer the outdoor terrace buzzes.

  2. B

    Café Berio

This two-level café serves cakes as sweet as the gooiest love letter. In business for more than half a century, its low-key but flirty Viennese-coffee-house vibe has proved an enduring gay fave.

  3. C

    Café Sugar

Not just for lesbians, the Sugar throws great parties and has a conscience for the goings-on of the buurt (neighbourhood). Come on in, blow up a balloon and hit the dance floor.

  4. D

    Saarein

This one-time feminist stronghold is still a meeting place for lesbians, although gay men are welcome too. The building dates from the 1600s. There’s a small menu with tapas and soups.

  5. E

    Dali Café

Dali Café is a gay-friendly café that seemed to be frequented by dodgy transvestites on the night we visited, but otherwise gets OK reviews.

  6. F

    Melitta Sundström

This cheerful cafe is busy at all hours but never more so than on Saturday nights when it's a preferred fuelling-up stop for parties at SchwuZ out back.
