  3. Cable Car

A highlight in itself, the cable car departs about every 15 minutes from the valley station and has several stages, becoming more low-key and remote the further you go. After the middle station (for the caves), Schönbergalm, it continues to the highest point (2109m) of Krippenstein, with the eerie 5Fingers viewing platform dangling over the precipice. The final stretch is to Gjaid Alm, taking you away from the crowds to an area where walking trails wind across the rocky meadows or lead higher into the mountains. Some of these trails begin at the simple Gjaid Alm guesthouse and working organic farm situated 10 minutes by foot from the cable-car station.

  4. Bürgeralpe

  5. Bike Trail Tirol

As the trailhead for the epic 1000km, 32-stage Bike Trail Tirol, Kitzbühel is mountain-biking central. Whether you want to pedal gently through the valley or rattle downhill on the new Gaisberg Trail, the tourist office’s KitzAlpBike cycling map (€3) is an excellent reference, showing all routes in the area. Bikes are transported for free on cable cars including Hahnenkammbahn, Kitzbüheler Hornbahn and Fleckalmbahn.

    Smithwick's Brewery Tours

If you smell something funny in the air, it may be the Budweiser being brewed under licence in the Smithwick Brewery . Now owned by drinks giant Diageo (Guinness, Harp and lots of spirits), the brewery is no longer the civic icon it once was. The tours which were enjoyed by generations are now a thing of the past, in their place are sporadic summertime showings of a promotional video. Enjoy!
