Tour description provided by Viator

The Luberon region of southern France is dotted with countless picturesque Provençal villages just waiting to be discovered. On this day trip from Marseille, travel by minivan to the Luberon villages of Oppède le Vieux and Menerbes, and visit a street market in Roussillon or L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Learn how lavender — the symbol of Provence — is transformed into luxurious essential oils and beauty products and, in the summer, make a photo stop at Sénanque Abbey to capture Provence’s beautiful lavender fields in full bloom.

You’ll be picked up from Marseille’s Vieux Port for your day trip by minivan to the Luberon region. Stretching 30 miles (48 km) along a ridge of rugged hills east of Avignon, Luberon is home to some of France's most picture-perfect hill towns, medieval villages and countryside landscapes.
On your drive, soak up views of lush green hills, thick forests, stone villages and castles perched on cliffs that cascade down to idyllic lavender fields — the trademark of Provence. Pass through the villages of Lourmarin and Bonnieux on your way to Roussillon (Thursday) or L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (Sunday), where you’ll stop to stroll through a local market with your guide. You’ll also have free time for lunch on your own.
Continue on the road toward Gordes, an old town perched on the high Plateau de Vaucluse overlooking the Luberon. Stop in the picturesque villages of Oppède le Vieux and Menerbes, both carved into rocky hills, where you'll hop out and wind your way through the narrow streets by foot. Your guide will show you the remains of their medieval ramparts.
Next, head to Coustellet for a stop at the Lavender Museum (Musée de la Lavande) to try out an exclusive line of natural cosmetics made from the fragrant essential oils of the region's most famous plant. A tour of the museum is not included; just the chance to try out and stock up on beauty products in the museum's shop.
In the summer (June 15 to July 15), you’ll make a photo stop at Sénanque Abbey to capture the beautiful lavender fields in full bloom. Then, relax on the drive back to Marseille, arriving at the Vieux Port in the evening.
