I visited Lalibela in January this year and have finally gotten around to writing up a blog post about it. It covers Lalibela itself as well as some of the churches in surrounding towns, which I'd highly recommend visiting. In essence: Lalibela lives up to and even exceeds the hype surrounding it, and I'll definitely be returning in future.

We are flying to Addis next week. Are flights and airport functioning " as usual" in spite of ongoing unrest?
Do I need to schedule more time in case of flights being cancelled etc.
Also wondering if the local goverment offices are affected in any way because of the current situation?
We're supposed to be traveling in Ethiopia, September/October timeframe. I've seen the news about protests and govt crackdowns, including blocking Facebook/Internet. Can somebody who's there fill me in on the vibe? We're supposed to be traveling from Addis and possibly traveling around Jinka, Omirate, Arba Minch, Awassa, and Danakil. If things are sketchy we might postpone. Thanks everyone.

Hi guys! I wonder about safety situation in Ethiopia with current riots and military activity. A friend or friend working in Addis begs us to cancel the trip, I want to know more opinions from locals and tourists who are there right now to make a decision.
I visited Ethiopia in January this year and I've finally gotten around to doing write ups on the places I visited.
So far I have Harar (https://new-faces-new-places.com/2016/08/14/hyenas-in-harar/) and Addis Ababa (https://new-faces-new-places.com/2016/03/12/away-in-addis-ababa/ ).
I'll be adding more places in the coming weeks. Hope this can help someone! I'm happy to elaborate on anything or answer any questions!
I'm traveling Ethiopia solo, starting in Bahir Dah on the 18 th of September. I've arranged a 3 day Simien trek from Gondar starting on Sunday the 25th via Simien Ethiopia Trekking, and so far it's just me....if anyone wants to join, let me know!
Also if anyone is kicking around the northern historical route from the 18th, it would be good to hear from you!
