Hi

I am travelling to Ethiopia and preferring to camp around Shashamane and was wondering if that is possible to do. I am wanting to keep costs down and not sure if this is a option. Any help would be appreciated

I booked a trip to the Danakil Depression for July 2016 through Pangeans Safari. I sent the deposit ($570 USD) via bank transfer, as requested. Two weeks before my arrival, the trip was cancelled due to "security reasons,", he said. Christos assured me the money would be returned, in writing. My emails have gone unreplied, and the refund is nowhere to be seen.

$570 takes you a long way in Ethiopia. This was a major financial setback on my trip, and I've wasted so much time trying to recover…

Hey, I just got back from Ethiopia and stuck with the currency as no currency exchanges here deal with this currency. If you are interested in buying my currency back let me know.

1,600 Ethiopian Birr is $72.30 USD. I'd sell it for a flat $70.00 (no shipping fees). We can work it out through paypal. Thanks, let me know (email: icewave667@gmail.com)

(All notes are 100 Birr bills)

I visited Lalibela in January this year and have finally gotten around to writing up a blog post about it. It covers Lalibela itself as well as some of the churches in surrounding towns, which I'd highly recommend visiting. In essence: Lalibela lives up to and even exceeds the hype surrounding it, and I'll definitely be returning in future.

You can read my whole post here:

We are flying to Addis next week. Are flights and airport functioning " as usual" in spite of ongoing unrest?
Do I need to schedule more time in case of flights being cancelled etc.

Also wondering if the local goverment offices are affected in any way because of the current situation?
Thx!

Hi,
We're supposed to be traveling in Ethiopia, September/October timeframe. I've seen the news about protests and govt crackdowns, including blocking Facebook/Internet. Can somebody who's there fill me in on the vibe? We're supposed to be traveling from Addis and possibly traveling around Jinka, Omirate, Arba Minch, Awassa, and Danakil. If things are sketchy we might postpone. Thanks everyone.

Hello,
This might be a silly question but...
If you organize your trekking to the Simiens directly in the entrance to the National Park, I know they can provide you a cook but what happens with the food?? Should you buy the food?? Cook does it for you and the you pay it to the cook?? You go together with him to buy it??
We are a group of 6 and we are seeing that organizing it in advance is more expensive but I don't know if it will be possible to just arrive to the entrance to the N.P. and…
