It has been my second time in Ethiopia.
In this time I have been 3 weeks there and in general the situation is not bad. Except some parts of the country you can visit the rest without any kind of problems. The situation is changing day by day so it´s better to know how the different areas are when you are there.
I have visited with one friend Dire Dawa-Harar, Awassa-Arba Minch-Jinka and Omo Valley.
In Addis Ababa we have been too without any kind of problems.
I highly recommended to put in touch…

I am keen to visit Ethiopia, in particular the following destinations, as part of a photographic trip.

Addis Ababa
Harar
Awash National Park
Semera
Afrera
Erta Ale
Ahmed Ela (Dallol, Lake Asale)
Hawzien
Mekele
Lalibela

However, I am restricted to the UK school holidays as to when I can go. My preferences for going would be:

  1. Summer holidays (July, August)
  2. Easter holidays (April)
  3. Christmas holidays (December)

Obviously it depends what the weather would be like at these times as to when would be…

Hi!
Austria has issued a travel warning for Gondar, Simien Mountains and Lalibela. I have a booking there for December.
Is there someone traveling in Gondar and around or in Lalibela, who can tell me about the situation there at the moment: Are there problems for tourists like road blockings, internet failures, closed hotels, ...
What is the prognosis for the next months?

Thanks for your help!
Betty

Hi,
I was in Ethiopia few weeks ago, stayed 2 weeks there, between Lalibela, Mekele, Axoun and son on.
I booked an organised trip to the Danakil with Ethiopia Hagere Tour. I gotta say, it was well organised !
The team was very friendly and acknowledgeable. We fell safe all the way, every thing was perfect. Best driver ever, our guide Gary was amazing.

Knowing they are also organising other trips, I highly recommend Hagere Tour and Travel.

If you travel to northern Ethiopia, Simien Mountains National Park is worth seeing. Here's their official website:
http://simienpark.org/
The best accommodations I found there are a LimaLimo Lodge. It's brand new, and has spectacular views.

A scout is required, but they usually don't speak much English. A professional guide, who speaks English and knows the park, is recommended. Here's the website for a good one, Afera Gebremedhin;

Hi,

I am planning a one month trip to Ethiopia in either November or December and any info on the following would be great.

My initial itinerary is: Addis - Laibela-Mekele (for Danakil) - Tigray - hiking in the Simien mountains-Gonder -Addis - not sure after this, it will depend on time.

  1. Does anyone have any info on the current security situation in the north? Info here is about 2-3 weeks old.
  2. Using only buses approximately how long will this trip take? I'm just trying to get an idea as…
