Lonely Planet review

Though part of the Best Western hotel chain, this chrome and glass giant has an attitude and design sense that obliterates any of the bland sameness and general ickyness that sometimes accompanies chain hotels. A one-two combo of impressive rooms and perfect location makes this a winner.

Most first-timers here experience serious jaw-dropping in the main lobby: corridors that continue to infinity, lit yellow marble panels, soft sofa chairs. This is luxury with an inviting and warm face. While the royal suite prices might exceed most people's budget, they are standout and can easily fit five people, making them affordable. They're decked out with computer, bed-sized TV, private sauna, old-styled bathtub and other extras. The standard rooms are also smartly done up in a masculine style - dark wood panelling, royal blues and golds on the bedspreads. Yet it feels odd that parking is free only for deluxe and suite clients, and that clients must pay to access the Internet from their rooms. As for the views, ask for a room facing the city; you'll either peer into a shopping centre or see the Old Town skyline; on the other side you face a drab courtyard.
