Lonely Planet review

At first glance, this looks like a generic, large hotel, but the Susi has little tricks up its sleeve to distinguish itself from its competition. A quirky, humourous sense of decor alluding to the historical significance of the hotel's site goes a long way to make your stay here memorable.

You know there's something different about the place when you spot the folk-style wheelbarrow outside, with what looks like a dancing rat engraved on it. The lobby features scattered original sculptures and art work, all part of the eccentric owner's personal collection. The restaurant features medieval weapons, shields and crests; it was on this site, after all, that the bloody St George's Uprising took place on May 14, 1343, when the local serfs rose against their owners. Rooms are neat, clean and functional, though unmemorable. More expensive ('Susi class') rooms have wi-fi, air conditioning and a minibar. Suites even have private saunas. These pluses, several conference halls and its proximity to the airport make the place popular with business persons. The hotel was awarded a Green Key for its environmentally friendly policies, so a stay here is a nice vote for the environment.
