Lonely Planet review
In a word: wow. This labyrinthine assembly of long, twisting corridors, narrow doorways and hidden corners, nooks and crannies, all stuffed with fabulous and not-so-fabulous antiques has a seductive air of mystery that's hard to forget and a pleasure to lose oneself in.
This cluster of 14th-century buildings in the heart of the Old Town has been lovingly, carefully refitted into one of the city's finest hotels - if you like a sense of the past and don't mind stairs. Rooms differ totally from one another. Some have original wooden ceiling beams, others bits of uncovered limestone, still others fantastic paintings, arches or fireplaces. Some are even split-level. All are fantastic and boast uncharacteristically spacious, super-modern bathrooms; a rarity in the Old Town. To avoid stairs, get a room on the 1st floor or in the separate annex out back (which holds just three rooms). If you're looking for a view of rooftops, you'll need the 6th- and 7th-floor rooms. The decked-out restaurant feels far removed from everything else in Tallinn, with a wild boar's head staring out from its unlikely home nailed to the wall.
