Lonely Planet review for Akbar

The naan served at this exceptionally popular Indian restaurant are absolutely massive, and that's just one of many reasons to tuck into some of England's favourite cuisine at this particular spot.

    Famous Indian

    lilmiss1982 recommends this,

Akbars has become quite famous locally. It has built up an excellent reputation and is very popular. The only down side is having to que for a table as the place is so popular but they have even managed to solve this problem by expand the size of the restaurant and creating more seating our wait on saturday night was just 10 mins its used to be nearer a hour and they have a bar area for drinks so a short wait is not a problem and the food is really worth waiting for. The staff are lovely here they are always friendly and happy to help they must have to super organised to run such a busy place so smoothly but by now i'm sure are used the dealing with such a large turn over of people. The decoration is very modern with great lighting effects which I find very relaxing. The menu itself has a great selection of dishes you would expect as well as some of the chefs special dishes and a handi dish of the day prepared how it would be eaten traditionally in Indian which I think is a nice touch to menu. To start with everyone is offered Poppadoms with a selection of dips which include mango chuckney and mint yogurt. There is then a large selection of starter with fish, meat and veggie options. For the main cousre I usually have the Chicken Tikka Makhani one of the chefs specials it is a mild dish of chicken tikka pieces cooked in a clay oven & pot roasted in a mild spicy sauce made from tomatoes, fresh double cream all garnished with almonds & cashew nuts it is very mild and creamy which I love and I usually order a naan bread with it too. The Naan breads are huge and a popular choice. I have never sampled the dessert menu before as I have never had room before. Akbars is very affordable too two of us dined with drinks for 30 pounds great speedy service without feeling rushed. I love this place it lives up to its reputation and I highly recommend this place if your after a nice indian 10/10

    The Best of Indian Food

    campbellriverite recommends this,

Akbars offers the best in Indian food. There arent many places to get a better curry in Leeds or Bradford. Which is high praise in an area blessed with many great curry houses.

The dishes are excellent, they have a great selection. The family naans are tremendous, large enough to block out the sun they are prepared fresh and are a highly recommended compliment to the meal.

Whatever you order at Akbars you will like it. I live in Canada and whenever I make a trip to the UK I make sure I have at least one meal there.
