Lady in White
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
Snow! Lots and lots of snow! More snow than London has seen in 18 years! The entire city has shut down. The tube is not running. The airport runways are frozen. Every adult and child in London is enjoying a snow day.

Lady Looks at Art
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
One of my favorite things about living in a city that is a cultural center is that great art comes to me as opposed to the other way around. Having been on travel hiatus for two straight weekends, I've had some time to catch up on the various art exhibitions around London. That's to say nothing of my December addiction to the Natural History Museum, which I visited no less than four times in two weeks, and January's V&A obsession, which has seen me there three weekends in four.

Lady in Highgate
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
I don't usually spend my free time in cemeteries. It's not that I have anything in particular against gravestones or funerary urns. It's just...well...it's just that they creep me out a little bit.On Sunday, however, I made an exception. Braving the frigid London cold, my boyfriend and I took a post-lunch stroll across Hampstead Heath into Highgate.

Lady in the Neighborhood
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
After spending half of January, half of February, and half of March outside of London, I wanted to spend some good quality time with my home city this weekend. In order to reacquaint myself with my amazing neighborhood and give myself something more exciting to write than "woke up, sat around the house all day, went to dinner, slept" (sounds like a bad Twitter post!), I spent this weekend strolling around Hampstead's narrow cobbled streets and gorgeous green spaces.

Lady Goes to Ascot
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
My year as the Face of Ascot is quickly approaching its end. Last Saturday I made one final trip out to the racecourse before Royal Ascot in June.I arrived at Ascot just before noon with my boyfriend and two of our friends. The PR team was kind enough to invite us to lunch in the Ascot Authority Box, so my friends headed up the escalators while I met up with a press team from the BBC at the wine tasting room on the ground level.

Lady Goes Punting
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
It's graduation season. A few weeks ago I went back to Brown for my five year reunion, which took place on the same weekend as graduation. The following day my cousin graduated from Yale with a master's degree. This weekend it was my good friend's turn to graduate. She invited me and my mother, who is visiting from San Francisco, to attend the ceremony at Oxford.

Lady in the Open Garden Squares
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
When my boyfriend and I first moved to London a year and a half ago, we camped out in a chi chi hotel in Belgravia for three weeks. Every day on our way to the tube at Victoria we would pass the beautiful gardens in Eaton Square, Chester Square, and Belgrave Square. We always wanted to go inside and enjoy the leafy green spaces and lovely flowers, but alas the gates were under lock and key and the only ones allowed inside were the residents that lived in the buildings in the squares.

Lady at Royal Ascot
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
After a month of getting outfitted for Royal Ascot, my boyfriend, my mother and I headed out to Berkshire on Tuesday morning for the start of the famous five day race meeting. Wearing my fuchsia Karen Millen dress and Cleo B heels, I left home excited for a day at the races.

Lady and the New Face of Ascot
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
Saturday was my last day as the Face of Ascot 2009. While I was sad to give up my title, I was excited to meet the new contenders for the Face of Ascot 2010 title. I woke up early, put on my black Karen Millen dress with a big rose on one shoulder and my still-too-big-for-me Cleo B heels, and grabbed my black satin handbag. I was ready to go.

Lady Gets a Taste of London
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
Last June my boyfriend and I bought tickets to Taste of London, a temporary foodie paradise in Regent’s Park that featured top London restaurants selling miniature portions of their signature dishes. We couldn’t wait to go. Unfortunately, a little something called the Face of Ascot competition forced us to change our plans. Instead of heading to Regent’s Park that Saturday to eat good food and drink champagne, we headed to Royal Ascot for a second time. Thankfully it was worth the trip.

Lady at the Henley Royal Regatta
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
Last Saturday was America's birthday. Most years on the 4th of July I spend the day in a bathing suit by a lake and a grill. At night fireworks burst overhead as we recall our great war for independence. And while most Americans would have trouble telling you what year that great war started, most of them could eat a few burgers washed down with cheap American beer and sing a somewhat coherent version of the national anthem.

Lady in Noho
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
A month ago my company moved into a new office in Noho. Formerly known as Fitzrovia, Noho is a trendy area around Charlotte Street in central London. The area has grown on me quite a bit since I started spending most of my waking life there.

Lady in Cornwall
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
Having spent so much time overseas in the past month, my boyfriend and I decided to take it easy in the UK last weekend. No, we didn't stay home. We headed to Cornwall for two days of seaside relaxation in England's southwest. After a frightening incident in which our driver fell asleep at the wheel on the way to the airport, we arrived in Newquay just as the sun was coming up. Not wasting any time, we headed straight for the Eden Project, Cornwall's impressive sustainable garden initiative.

Lady in Leeds
Blog: A Lady in London - 4 November 2009
Today I took the fastest business trip of my life. I wanted to meet with a client up in Leeds, but the best prices on train tickets were only available if I arrived in Leeds just before noon and departed just after 2pm. After a bit of indecision, I bought the tickets, agreed to hold the meeting with the client at the train station, and hoped for a delay-free train trip.

Brighton - Ticking all the boxes
Blog: Bec and John in the UK - 28 October 2009
Brighton, on England's south coast, could well be said to be "London's beach getaway town" - in just 50 minutes by fast train, you can swap pigeons and pie-and-mash for seagulls and scampi-and-chips. Way back in June we decided to pounce on a particularly nicely-forecasted Saturday and see what Brighton had to offer. In order to truly understand the appeal of Brighton, you must first grasp the fundamentals of the English seaside:

Pilpel Falafel, Spitalfields
Blog: An American in London - 12 October 2009
Of the many amazing memories I have of my trip to Israel last summer, eating the best falafel and hummous of my life ranks up there. So imagine my excitement when Pilpel opened near Spitalfields Market (which is where I work). For the past three months, I’ve found it a colossal exercise of [...]

England without London - You'll be amazed! Part 1 - The Far North
Blog: 501 Places - 9 October 2009
First off, let me state that I enjoy visiting London. There is so much to see, and I love just getting off the train at Kings Cross and walking to wherever the mood takes me. Regent's Park, Camden Town, the South Bank and Hyde Park can all be covered in a gentle day's meandering past historic buildings and streets, with plenty of great food stops and people watching opportunities.

Young Bean, Barbican
Blog: An American in London - 6 October 2009
Because two friends independently emailed me about Young Bean on the same day, I couldn’t not try it out. Young Bean is a mostly-Korean restaurant perched on a “highwalk” close to London Wall, but somehow, despite its isolation, the place was packed at lunch when I visited last week. Theoretically, £12 may seem a bit pricey for [...]
