Getting there & away
Nottingham is well situated for both trains and buses. The train station just to the south of the town centre has frequent – but no fast services – that go to Birmingham (1½ hours), Manchester (two hours) and London (two hours). Coaches are the cheaper option, mostly operating from the dingy confines of Broadmarsh bus station. There are five direct services to Birmingham and around 10 to London. Bus services to outlying villages are regular and reliable too. Services to Southwell, Eastwood and Newark also mostly depart from Broadmarsh bus station. If you’re going further, the nearby airport might be your best bet.
Central Trains (08457 48 49 50; www.centraltrains.co.uk) Links up to Liverpool to the northwest, and as far south as Stansted Airport.
East Midlands Airport (0871 919 9000; www.nottinghamema.com)
Midland Mainline (08457 48 49 50; www.midlandmainline.com) Serves East Midlands, London, and goes up north too.
Trent Barton (01773-712265; www.trentbuses.co.uk) Buses depart from Broadmarsh and Victoria bus stations.
