Lonely Planet review for Victoria Square

Birmingham's grandest civic buildings cluster around pedestrianised Victoria Sq, at the western end of New St, dominated by the stately facade of Council House, erected in 1874–79. A facelift in the 1990s gave the square modernist sphinxes and a fountain topped by a naked female figure, nicknamed 'the floozie in the jacuzzi' by locals, overlooked by a disapproving statue of Queen Victoria.
