What were once the scariest parts of Birmingham – the area around the Bullring, for example – have been transformed by the city’s dramatic refurbishments. And the city’s vibrant nightlife means there’s as much activity on the main streets at 2am as there is at 2pm, although the area around Digbeth bus station has an edge to it. As in most large cities, it’s wise to avoid walking alone late at night in unlit areas, particularly if you’re a woman.
