Predictable, inoffensive and keenly priced, the Express by Holiday Inn doesn't hold any surprises, however, with an ideal location within minutes' walk of the city centre but far enough off the main drag to avoid the late-night noise, it's ideal for a short city stay.

You already know what to expect from this chain hotel before you make a booking and this place doesn't ruin any stereotypes. The rooms are a decent size, the innocuous decor comes direct from head office and you'll get the standard work space, modem point, pull-out sofa and compact bathroom. The deep blue and green colour scheme here is a better choice than some in the chain and the power showers are a consolation prize in the smaller-than-average bathrooms. If you're travelling in a group, or with children, the fixed-price room rate makes this hotel an excellent deal and the complimentary continental breakfast is more than you'll get in most city-centre hotels.
