Getting there & away
The X80 travels every half hour from Torquay to Paignton (20 minutes), Totnes (one hour) and Plymouth (two hours 10 minutes). Bus 111 travels to Dartmouth (1¾ hours, hourly, Monday to Saturday) via Totnes.
A branch train line runs from Exeter via Torquay (45 minutes) to Paignton (50 minutes). The Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway (555872; www.paignton-steamrailway.co.uk) runs from Paignton on the scenic 7-mile trip to Kingswear on the River Dart, linked by ferry (six minutes) to Dartmouth; a combined ticket costs £9 return per adult. You can add on a river cruise (£14) or a Round Robin boat trip to Totnes and back to Paignton by bus (£14.50).
