    The fish here is so fresh they change the menu twice a day. So, depending on what's been landed at Brixham (7 miles away) or Dartmouth (a few yards away), you might get cuttlefish in Chianti, sea bream with roasted garlic, or fried local squid with garlic mayonnaise. The river views are charming, the atmosphere relaxed; definitely one not to miss.

    Expect sweeping views of the Cobb and dazzling food at this super-stylish open-plan cabin. Ink-cooked spelt comes with Devon squid, scallops with black pudding, and steak with scrumpy-fried onions. Perhaps start by slurping some oysters: Brownsea Island or Falmouth molluscs come at £2.25 to £3.50 a pop.

    This sophisticated seafooderie originally opened in Oxford, but has had a Bristol outpost for over a decade. It's one of the city's top choices for a fish supper, from baked bream to fresh British lobster; the hot shellfish platter (£42 for two people) is made for sharing. The simple setting, with its stripy table cloths, whitewashed walls and ships' lanterns, adds to the maritime vibe.
