I've been to England (specifically London) a couple of times. I love walking around the city and enjoying the sights, but I have done all of the tourist stuff. I've seen Westminster, all the bridges, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Greenwich, changing of the guard, etc... The usual list of things.

I'm returning in August to see the Pink Floyd exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. After that, I should have about 8 days to wander about. (I'm…

Alrighty, my 20-year-old daughter and I are booked and flying to, London, (France by rail), and Istanbul Turkey, with the possibility of extending our trip into Moscow, this October.

She smokes (I quit 21 yrs ago) and I'm sympathetic to her "addiction" so any suggestions/experience (other than telling her to quit) is very helpful in getting her through this trip. From what I understand, there is no smoking in Heathrow airport, not even a designated area? What about Paris train station (we're…

Dear all,

we are currently planning a 3 weeks visit to UK for next August. Possible dates are 28th July/19th august, or 4th August / 25th August. We are a couple with a 3yo daughter and a 10mo baby, and our ability to move around is quite limited by our children's naps. We love nature and our 3yo kids is always excited about stuff like poney riding, playgrounds, tree top climbing, visiting special places ...

Our initial plan was to have two weeks in Lake District 4th August/19th August, the…

So I went to London, the Lake District, York and Cambridge.

But the best place I went to was LINCOLN!

Went to Lincoln almost by chance, not knowing what was there. Turns out it is the best place I have been to in England. Giant cathedral on top of the hill. In the castle around the corner, they have a copy of the Magna Carta on display and THE original Domesday Book hand-written on vellum.

Also the ‘Charter of the Forest’ which resulted in people like Robin Hood ceasing to be outlaws…

Hello Lonely Planet! I'm really excited to be a part of this seemingly wonderful community. I have recently started traveling and, more recently, have decided to embark on a month-long wanderlust journey from the south of England to the north to explore your beautiful and historic country. I will be traveling solo, kind of going where the wind takes me, but I do need to have a general idea of date ranges and areas. My 12 lb dog will be my travel partner, as he flies with me everywhere and I'm…

We are arriving mid afternoon from Australia and are wondering: What is the best way to get from Heathrow to our accommodation in London? I have back issues and prefer not to lift our cases if possible on and off public transport.

Since we arrive after midnight, am looking for taxi service to meet and greet family of 4, and take us to hotel in central London. Looking for recommended services - only ones that you have experienced. Thanks in advance.

We are spending 2 nights in York on our 3 week trip, but will only have 1 day to see the sights since we will arrive in the evening. My plan is to take the free walking tour in the morning, eat some lunch and then see the Castle Museum. My husband likes to shop, so we will have to allot time for that on Stonegate, (I think that's the shopping street/district), plus see The Shambles. Are the stores open in the evening? I know I'm missing a lot, so I want to know if I should substitute something…
